Introduction

From 25 – 28 May, 2007 the Württembergische Kunstverein and the Künstlerhaus Stuttgart will present a video- and lecture programme which analyses the consequences of colonialism.

The programme comprises a selection of videos drawn from the OVNI Festival 2006 (Barcelona), The Colonial Dream – Autonomous Zones (see: concept; see: programm/synopses). OVNI is an independent initiative founded in Barcelona, in 1993. Its archives and festivals focus on video productions revolving around themes such as globalisation, practices of resistance or colonialism. OVNI draws attention to productions which generate critical counter-publics and elude the structures of mass media as well as of the culture industry, and which produce heterogeneous, subjective and contradictory perspectives on social realities.

In addition, further projects will be presented which, on the basis of extensive research, video collections, events and publications, participate in critical cultural and knowledge production and thematise various areas of social conflict.

Jochen Becker (Innsbruck/Berlin) presents the project series From/To Europe, which examines the colonial fundaments of Europe.

The anti-colonial group Remember Resistance (Jochen Becker, Julien Enoka-Ayemba, Sonja Hohenbild, Brigitta Kuster, Berlin) develops film programmes that examine the structures of colonialism and migration. With film extracts and commentaries, they present the programme Bourdieu in the Banlieue.

Julien Enoka-Ayemba (RemRes, Berlin) will be analysing the phenomenon “Nollywood”. Sandra Schäfer and Jochen Becker (together with Madeleine Bernstorff) are the editors of the metroZones book Kabul/Teheran 1979ff. They will provide an introduction to the project Kabulistan, which brings together local and international perspectives on the social situation in Afghanistan. Furthermore, a video collection was developed within the context of Kabulistan. A selection can be viewed from 25 May to 10t June, 2007, in a DVD-library together with additional information relating to the project.

The lectures by Jochen Becker and Julien Enoka-Ayemba will be held at the Künstlerhaus Stuttgart as part of the project series Institutional Politics.

The event will take place in the English language.
