Introduction
Goal 2006! is a hybrid media project which focusses on the World Cup in the era of globalization.
The World Cup, scheduled for June 9-July 9, 2006 is the single most watched cultural event on the planet and the penultimate of ‘mega’ media events. It presents a rich cultural and technological global terrain in which to explore the evolving nature of communications and community in the early years of the 21st century.
The project functions simultaneously as a ‘traditional’ art installation, a media production studio, an architecture and design seminar space/classroom that researches the overlap of virtual and urban space, and as a social forum. Our goal is to create a highly active public space where images and conversation can flow to form new ideas.
