Member's Jour Fixe
The monthly member’s jour fixe is an open forum dedicated to a variety of topics. Current and upcoming exhibitions are discussed here as well as current affairs of the Kunstverein or his work beyond the public business. General concerns of art, cultural policy, society, etc. are also the subject of discussion. The members are expressly invited to suggest topics or to present their own ideas, questions or projects. For example, artist members regularly give insights into their most recent projects.

WKV at other locations. Visiting the Kulturinsel Stuttgart

A visit to the Kulturinsel Stuttgart in Bad Cannstatt was actually planned last year in March, but the pandemic intervened. Almost one and a half years later, we are taking up our plan again: Founder Joachim Petzold takes us on a tour of the multifaceted grounds. In addition to an artists' café and the urban garden project Inselgrün, the Kulturinsel has been an official "welcome space" of the City of Stuttgart since March 2018 and sees itself as a cross-generational meeting place for people with and without a history of flight. In the context of this free place of (sub-) culture, questions of funding arise again and again, all the more urgently with regard to the Corona crisis. Together with Joachim Petzold we will discuss.

Seemingly without context, 14 columns stand in a row on the busy Neckartalstraße not far from a waste incineration plant in Bad Cannstatt. Only a few know since when and for what reasons the travertine columns have been there. For the members' jour fixe in June, we visit Martin Mannweiler and Christine von Raven from Stadtlücken e.V.. The Stuttgart-based association tracks down gaps in the urban system: Unused spaces or knowledge gaps and looks for forms and formats of raising awareness for public space. Martin Mannweiler and Christine von Raven enlighten us about the history of the travertine columns during a short walk around them. This raises very specific questions: What is a monument? And how can this be commented on in current times? We are looking forward to the evening together!
Meeting point: In front of the travertine columns, Neckartalstraße 225, 70376 Stuttgart

Every two years the exhibition of the artist members of the Württembergischer Kunstverein takes place. The next edition is planned for the coming summer. Due to the current situation of the pandemic, the estimated format of the members' exhibition is unfortunately not possible to the usual extent. Hans D. Christ, director of the WKV, will present ideas and implementation possibilities for the next issue at the members' jour fixe in April. Together with you, we would like to rethink and think ahead with regard to the current social but also spatial conditions. We look forward to the exchange with you!

As part of the March Jour Fixe, we cordially invite you to the online introduction to the current exhibition Actually, the Dead Are Not Dead: Una forma de ser. Veronika Schneider, WKV art mediator, will introduce you to the show in the context of its historical and contemporary references. The central leitmotif of the exhibition - the festival as a stage for resistant practices - has taken on a new meaning against the backdrop of current experiences of lockdown and social distance: After all, the feast, which stands for social and physical closeness par excellence, is currently the epitome of the pandemic fall from grace. Moreover, certain social groups, such as the Rom*nja, have been particularly affected by the Corona pandemic and its consequences. Their social exclusion, which existed long before, has been exacerbated. In this respect, the exhibition also takes up aspects of spatial politics, which Veronika Schneider emphasizes in her introduction. We look forward to seeing you!

Due to the pandemic and its effects on the art business in general and WKV in particular, the members' jour fixe has unfortunately been cancelled for almost a year now. We want to change that starting this month. While it is not possible for us to meet at WKV, at least we can exchange ideas online, because there is a lot to report: from new and postponed programs to what is happening "behind the scenes" to the upcoming general meeting and the members' exhibition.
We would also like to hear more about how you are experiencing the pandemic and what you would like to see WKV do in these times. We look forward to seeing you!
