Introduction

Württembergischer Kunstverein is holding a three-week workshop for students of various European art academies. Against the backdrop of the "FIFA World Cup 2006" the focus of the workshop is on the influence of such major events – Olympic games, expos, cultural capitals, biennials, etc. – on urban structures, culture and leisure. From architecture and urban development to image building and tourism, or surveillance systems, the aim is to investigate the spectacularisation and marketing of cities.

The workshop is organised by three different theorists and artists: Yvonne P. Doderer, Ute Meta Bauer and Ricardo Basbaum.

An exhibition at the Kunstverein will present the results of the workshop.

“City Spectacle“ takes place in the context of Crosskick – European Art Academies as guests in German art associations.
