OVNI Archiv, Barcelona
[OVNI = Observatori de Video No Identificat/Observatory of Non-Identified Videos]
The OVNI Archive (Barcelona), founded in 1993, sees itself as an independent forum for critical cultural practices in video art, in independent documentaries as well as in the archaeology of mass media. It includes over 1.400 titles drawn from highly diverse contexts which, taken as a whole, throw a multi-perspectival, equally critical, alternative, as well as utopian perspective on social realities. It thus turns against the predominant information policies of mass media.
The productions are by artists, film-makers, political and activist groups as well as so-called “lay-producers”. The OVNI festival takes place every eighteen months whereby each event focuses on a specific theme.

On it’s way: From/To Europe
From/To Europe, a research and exhibition project in progress, maintains that its two central fields of examination – the reciprocal relationship between Europe and its colonies since 1884, and the contemporary situation of "cities of the world", which are effectively determined by migration – are interlinked. Until now, colonial history and migration politics have been discussed separately.

„Nollywood“: Digital Cinema in West Afrika
With the format of art(e)house, financed by Europe, and “Nollywood“ as third largest film industry in the world, different concepts on the production of images from Africa encounter one another. With the model “Nollywood”, the independence of African cinema, particularly in West Africa, with respect to the institutions of former colonial powers – until now only expressed as a hope – now appears more conceivable than ever. This would also spell the end of a paradigm of African film accepted until now.
