The artist

Anna Opperman (1940 - 1993)

Anna Oppermann, born in 1940 in Eutin. Died in 1993 in Celle. Lived and worked in Hamburg. She was a professor at the University of Wuppertal (1982–90), and from 1990 on, she taught at what is today the Berlin University of the Arts.

Oppermann was awarded numerous grants and prizes, including the Edwin Scharff Prize (1977), the Villa Romana Prize, Florence (1977), the Cité International des Arts Paris scholarship (1981), the Berlin Art Prize—Grant-in-Aid Visual Art (1982), the Heitland Foundation Prize (1985), the Barkenhoff Grant, Worpswede (1987), and the Artist’s Grant of Lower Saxony (1989).
