The Possibilities

Alán Carrasco, Diego Paonessa
July 23 – August 21, 2016

in the framework of the residency exchange program Catalonia – Baden-Württemberg 2016

Friday, July 22, 2016, 7 p.m.

After a successful start of the new residency program for artistic exchange between
Catalonia and Baden-Württemberg last year, this program was continued in 2016. Initiated by the Goethe-Institute Barcelona, the Hangar art center in Barcelona, the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg and the Württembergischer Kunstverein – it consists in four residencies taking place for two months in Stuttgart and Barcelona and addressing two artists of each partner region. This year’s fellows from Barcelona, Alán Carrasco and Diego Paonessa, stayed in Stuttgart from June to July.

The exhibition The Possibilities (July 23 - August 21, 2016) presents the results of this fellowship.

Alán Carrasco, who in his work deals with fictions of the state, the nation, or money, dedicated his time in Stuttgart to the history and present of the Stammheim prison in Stuttgart. In his projet The Meshes of Power: Supermax he reads this subject in the context of Michel Foucault‘s lecture The Mesh of Power from 1976.

Diego Paonessa’s work is characterized by two lines: Procedures, processes and mechanisms of production on the one hand; social configuration of technology, intervention and the use of tools/applications related to language on the other hand. In his project Public Domain Energy he connects energy production and the idea of DIY as an experimental practical.
