Kunstgebäude Stuttgart

How will the old section of the Kunstgebäude in Stuttgart be utilized in the future?

Against the backdrop of this public discussion, six local institutions—Akademie Schloss Solitude, ifa – Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, Schauspiel Stuttgart, Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart, Theater Rampe, Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart—have drafted a utilization concept for the years 2017–2018. While the State of Baden-Württemberg is considering future developments for 2019 and beyond, the task force is filling the Kunstgebäude with a transdisciplinary program aligned to thematic principles.

This program has been voluntarily conceptualized by the aforementioned organizations, either all together or in various constellations, and implemented by a production team. The projects are financially supported by the State Ministry for Science, Research and Art of Baden-Württemberg.

The transdisciplinary conference and festival series “New Narratives: Thinking Economics Differently,” first held from March 20 to April 2, 2017, will be continued from April 9 to 15, 2018. Moreover, exhibitions will be held that are devoted to the Reformation (What Are the Clouds?, 18.11.2017 – 4.3.2018), the Bauhaus (as of May 2018), and German-French cultural dialogue (Retour de Paris, as of Fall 2018).

A focus here is placed on experimentation with new formats which are situated between exhibition and performative projects, art and theory, participation and debate, and which adopt a perspective that is global and local in equal measure.
