For this public conversation Ruth Noack and Imogen Stidworthy will be taking the exhibition ‘Dialogues with People’ as a springboard to talk about dialogue itself. Through the art works in the exhibition and the people who figure in them, we will delve into different forms of voicing and the rub up between them. We will consider the language of the art work and the (broadly speaking) cinematic methods in the making and showing of the works in the exhibition. And, drawing on wider artistic and cinematic references, we will talk about social and political dimensions of voicing, especially where the possibility of sharing a language at all is uncertain.

RUTH NOACK works as an art historian, author, teacher and exhibition maker. She has published widely and internationally, amongst these a monograph on Sanja Ivekovics Triangle (Afterall, 2013). She is teaching and researching at the Dutch Art Institute (DAI), most recently on the subject of issues of childhood and nation. Her most recent series of exhibition sketches, "Sleeping with a Vengeance, Dreaming of a Life", opened this year in Athens, Prague and Beijing and will continue on to Yogjakarta and Zagreb in 2019.
