Migrant Journal - presentation and discussion with Isabel Seiffert

An event by
Disjekta

in cooperation with
Württembergischer Kunstverein

MIGRANT JOURNAL describes the circulation of people, goods, information, and even fauna and flora,. The aim of the journal is to explore the relationship between these elements, events, journeys, and spaces that can be understood by the term „migration“. MIGRANT JOURNAL invited artists, journalists, scientists, designers, architects, philosophers, activists and citizens to rethink our migration approach and critically address the new spaces it creates.

Isabel Seiffert, co-editor and art director of MIGRANT JOURNAL (with Christoph Miler), talks about the idea, the complex development process and the comprehensive design concept of the six-issue project.

Exhibition - Reading Room

A project by
Disjekta

in cooperation with
Württembergischer Kunstverein

The Reading Room shows in exhibition-like presentations independent publishers and magazines as a collection open to the public. The project reacts to the changing contexts, in which today often books, magazines and other publications are distributed and perceived. Beyond the established channels, there exists a lively, internationally networked scene of actors, to whom the Reading Room in Stuttgart wants to provide a platform.

Schädel X
Lecture Performance as part of the Stuttgart Symposium 2019
"Die vergessene Ausbeutung. Kolonialismus und der Südwesten"

an event by
Haus der Geschichte Baden-Württemberg
Stadtarchiv Stuttgart

in cooperation with
Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart

Thousands of skulls from the former colonies are stored in the cellars of German universities and museums. They originate predominantly from an injustice context - they were excavated or separated from the bodies of executed "insurgents" and sent to Germany as trophies. In anthropological institutes, scientists conducted racial research on these skulls. 100 years later, demands for a dignified treatment and restitution of these skulls to the descendants increased. Universities and museums hesitantly begin to work through this dark chapter of their history. A skull forms the center of the lecture performance Schädel X. Two biographical stories revolve around him. They lead from Tanzania and Germany via archives, consulates, battlefields and laboratories through German colonial history into the heart of one's own skull. With historical documents and original sounds, they combine to form a (post-)colonial odyssey between science, politics and theatre.

for members
and for those who would like to become one...

In the course of our Member's Jour Fixe we visit HuMBase in November - a cultural project initiated by Hannah Häußer and Maximilian Borchert (HuM-Collective) in 2018. HuMBase is looking for gaps in urban spaces in order to exploit their potential and to test and establish new formats. Currently the project is located in a former church in the north of Stuttgart.
We gain an insight into the project and visit the exhibition Innenarchitekturen by the artists Rosa Rücker and David Semper of the Kunstverein Gästezimmer.
Please note that the interiors of the former church are not heated... more

Who's speaking in Shoah? / Qui parles dans Shoah?
Lecture: Prof. Dr. Francine Kaufmann

an event by
IZKT (Internationales Zentrum für Kultur- und Technikforschung, Universität Stuttgart)

in cooperation with
Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart

The lecture deals with the work of the French filmmaker and author Claude Lanzmann. His documentary Shoah (1985) remains a challenge to this day. He gives both the survivors and the perpetrators of the genocide of the European Jews a voice. In her lecture, Francine Kaufmann, expert on Lanzmann, poses the question of who actually speaks in Shoah
The lecture is followed by a discussion with Prof. Dr. Raphael Zagury-Orly, moderated by Dr. Silvia Richter.

On the occasion of the October Member Jour Fixe we are guests at the Kunstverein Wagenhalle at Stuttgart's Nordbahnhof. Actually, the association uses the former car repair hall for its studios, workshops and storerooms. Currently, however, the Wagenhalle is being renovated and the adjacent Container City serves as an interim quarter.
As part of a guided tour, we can explore the grounds of the Kunstverein, gain insights into the wagon hall, which is currently undergoing reconstruction, and visit the Container City... more

We dedicate the members Jour Fixe in September to the extensive accompanying program of this year's members exhibition Could be. Although the performance refers to the theatrical form through its subdivision into three acts, it questions conventions and hasty judgements in a performative manner.
From 7:45 pm on, Grégory Dary presents a short film. The choreographer and filmmaker has portrayed refugees and volunteers from the Stuttgart region as part of his music and dance project "Menschen tanzen" in 2017/2018. The rise of the (New) Right also has implications for architectural policy. Against this background, the research project Rechte Räume of the Institut Grundlagen moderner Architektur und Entwerfen (IGmA) of the University of Stuttgart in cooperation with the ARCH+ Verein sees itself as a contribution to the re-politicization of architectural discourse. The results of the research are collected in the current issue of Rechte Räume by the magazine ARCH+, which is presented framed by discussions with the authors at the Glastrakt.
