The Württembergischer Kunstverein is happy to announce the screening of the film The Wind Will Carry Us by the famous Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami on its new outdoor platform. Prior to the screening, the writer and translator Mahmoud Hosseini Zad will speak about the film, which is based on the poem of the same name by Forugh Farrokhzad, and Kiarostami’s work.

Abbas Kiarostami (1940-2016) was a poet and philosopher who "wrote" his poetic films with his camera. The Wind Will Carry Us received two awards from the Venice International Film Festival, among others. About this film, Kiarostami writes "'The Wind Will Carry Us' means that sooner or later we have to die, and for that very reason we should enjoy life before the wind tears us, like leaves, off the tree where we thought we would stay forever.”

The Iranian writer, translator, literary juror and lecturer Mahmoud Hosseini Zad is considered the most important translator of German-language literature in Iran. In 2013, he was awarded the Goethe Medal for his services and commitment as a cultural mediator in the fields of literature, theater and film. In his lecture he will talk about the allegorical aesthetics and poetic power of Kiarostami’s films.

Brief description of the film
A few people arrive from Tehran for a short stay at Siah Dareh, a village in Iranian Kurdistan. The locals do not know why they are there. The strangers wander around the former cemetery and let the villagers think that they are looking for treasure. They end up leaving without really giving the impression that they have found what they were looking for.
