Hangar, Barcelona

Exchange stipend

Despite COVID-19, we have decided to continue the successful artist exchange between Baden-Württemberg and Catalonia in 2021. We offer artists from Catalonia the opportunity to work artistically for two months in Stuttgart and artists from Baden-Württemberg to do the same in Barcelona.

Six years ago, this exchange was initiated by the Goethe-Institut Barcelona. Partners are the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg, the Hangar Center for Artistic Research and Production in Barcelona and the Württembergischer Kunstverein. It is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of Baden-Württemberg and the Ministry of Culture of the Catalan government.

A total of four artists will be given the opportunity to explore the respective other art field and dedicate themselves to a site-specific work for two months. The artist exchange serves the dialogue between the artists and enables them to expand their international networks.

As of now, artists residing in Catalonia can apply for a two-month residency in Stuttgart - from August 1 to September 30, 2021 - and artists residing in Baden-Württemberg can apply for a two-month residency in Barcelona - from September 1 to October 31, 2021.

There are 4 places in total, two for Stuttgart, two for Barcelona. Scholarship benefits include round-trip travel, accommodation and studio, as well as subsistence and production allowance.

Detailed information about the application and scholarship benefits can be found on the websites of the partners:

Application deadline is extended until May 5, 2021. The jury meeting and the announcement of the decision will take place in May.
