The opening program begins with an in-depth conversation between the artist, Iris Dressler, and Elvira Dyangani Ose about the aesthetic, emancipatory, and activist practices, content, and agendas of Carrie Mae Weems, particularly regarding the history of violence against and resistance by People of Color. This conversation will provide the foundation for subsequent contributions and discussions. Max Jorge Hinderer Cruz, Susanne Leeb, and Ülkü Süngün discuss strategies and approaches of decolonizing institutions, their narratives and perspectives.

Guided tour of the Black Community Foundation (BCF), Stuttgart
With Jelisa Delfeld, Kousar Qasim, Sandra Salem.
Together we will look at the exhibited works of Carrie Mae Weems from an Afro-German perspective, and talk about how the works are relevant and inspiring for local activism and decolonial processes in Germany. We will discuss themes such as visibility, representation, and education, which play central roles in Weems' works, against the backdrop of BCF's empowerment and awareness-raising work.
