Workshop: Teil 3

25. - 29. September 2006

re-projecting
My project to the City Spectacle workshop deals with system, circuit, model and scale issues, applied to the city of Stuttgart and its local characteristics and dynamics. The participants will be invited to relate their workshop projects to specific areas of the city and at the same time incorporate the issues proposed and raised here.

I have been developing in the last decade several projects having as reference a specific drawing, which is conceptualized in terms of transformation, affect, and relationship, through the use of strategies of repetition, memorization, contamination and group dynamics.

For the City Spectacle workshop, the drawing will be applied to the map of Stuttgart, spotting nine different areas, which correspond to the points where the drawing's angles and central circle touch the map. The areas will be the object of the workshop, in terms of their characteristics and singularities. Each participant will choose which area is most interesting for developing his/her workshop proposal. One of the spots will correspond directly to the workshop main building or  space (the Kunstverein or other). A circuit or system is created, inter-connecting the different areas of the city and the workshop building.

At the same time, the same drawing will be displayed in a smaller scale inside the workshop space (Kunstverein or other), on the floor of one room, and will function as a model to connect the participant's bodies in a short series of a game and exercise situation. Both micro (workshop room space) and macro (the city) situations are then confronted, raising issues that depart from a study of the city and the participant's proposals.

A video will be recorded both indoors and in the city spaces for posterior editing, using two different video strategies: (1) for the indoor space, a short Closed Circuit TV system (composed of 4 B/W cameras, sequencer, 18” monitor and VCR) will record the games and exercises; (2) for the outdoor spaces a MiniDV camera handled by the participants will get images form the visited areas.
